Classification: thought to be from the Indo-European, Indo-Iranian, Indo-Aryan and Sinhalese-Maldivian language families.
*Veddah was a mix of Pali, Sanskrit and Elu, but the language has almost disappeared. Modern Veddah is mainly Sinhalese with few original Veddah words still spoken.
