  Trapping Ground Moles
(Large Pocket Gopher)

Mopan Mayan Techniques for protecting crops
Blue Creek (Toledo District, Belize)

PHOTOGRAPHS AND TEXT BY JEAN-PHILIPPE SOULÉ 1999

Trap Preparation

Heraldo taught us the technique used by his ancestors.

Why and how the trap works

A section of the gopher's tunnel is dug up, the trap set and covered over with leaves and dirt. A gap is left to let some light in. The Gopher comes to patch the hole. Gotcha!
